Anti-Slip Marco Island.

ANSI-rated slip-resistant floor systems for Marco Island’s pool decks, marine docks, boat ramps, and commercial wet-service floors. Epoxy Guys build them for the Gulf Coast’s year-round wet outdoor environment.

Anti-slip coatings are a safety requirement on Marco Island in a way they aren’t in most inland Florida markets. The island’s combination of waterfront lifestyle, heavy pool and dock use, daily rain from June through October, and salt water tracked from every direction means that outdoor and near-outdoor horizontal surfaces are wet more often than they are dry. A slip on a boat ramp, pool deck, or dock approach is a real injury risk, and generic deck sealers and paint don’t hold their slip rating in this environment because the aggregate wears off the surface rather than being sealed into it.

The anti-slip system Epoxy Guys install uses UV-stable polyaspartic or 100% solids epoxy base chemistry depending on the surface and environment, with aluminum oxide or no-slip aggregate broadcast and fully sealed into the topcoat layer. The sealed-aggregate approach is critical: when aggregate sits on top of a coating without being sealed in, it wears down with foot traffic and loses its slip rating within a season or two. When it’s sealed into the topcoat, the surface maintains its ANSI A137.1 wet DCOF rating for the life of the coating. We document the rating and the product specification on every install.

The one factor that catches most Marco Island property owners off guard is how much of the slip risk comes from what gets tracked in rather than the rain itself. This is a boating and fishing community. People walk off a dock with wet feet, cross a lanai still dripping from the pool, and step onto a garage floor with sand and salt water on the soles of their shoes. Every one of those surfaces is a transition point, and a transition point is where falls happen. A coating that only performs when the surface is bone dry is useless on this island, because the surfaces are almost never bone dry between June and October. We spec for the wet condition first and treat the dry condition as the easy case, which is the reverse of how a lot of coatings get sold.

Where we install anti-slip coatings on Marco Island

Anti-slip coating demand on Marco Island comes from residential, marine, and commercial environments: pool decks and lanais at single-family homes and condominium properties; boat docks and dock approaches at canal-front homes and marina facilities; boat ramps and launch facilities along the Marco River and Goodland Bay; commercial stairways and walkways at retail, hospitality, and marine business properties; and restaurant and kitchen floors requiring documented slip resistance for health department compliance. We provide DCOF documentation for any commercial install. Call (239) 300-0546 or contact us online.

How we work

From call to cure.

Every Marco Island install follows the same documented sequence. No shortcuts, no skipped steps.

Step 01

Safety Assessment

We start with an onsite review of the specific surface, traffic pattern, and wet-service conditions. The slip resistance rating and aggregate type we recommend depends on the actual operating conditions, not a one-size default.

Step 02

Surface Prep

Mechanical abrasion to the appropriate ICRI profile for the system we’re applying. Existing coatings that are failing are removed. Cracks are filled. The surface must be clean, sound, and properly profiled before any coating is applied.

Step 03

Base Coat Application

We apply the base coat system appropriate for the surface environment: moisture-tolerant epoxy for concrete slabs with vapor emission issues, standard 100% solids epoxy for sound low-moisture surfaces.

Step 04

Aggregate Broadcast and Seal

Anti-slip aggregate is broadcast into the topcoat while it is still wet, then a sealer coat locks the aggregate in place. This is the step that determines whether the slip rating lasts. We use polyaspartic sealer for UV-exposed exterior surfaces.

Step 05

DCOF Verification and Documentation

For commercial projects requiring documented slip resistance, we use a DCOF meter to verify the installed surface meets the specification before job closeout. Documentation is provided in writing.

Why choose us

Built for coastal Florida.

Marco Island’s Gulf-proximity, daily humidity, and UV loads require different chemistry than inland markets. Epoxy Guys have been doing this in Southwest Florida since 2012.

Safety Standards

ANSI-Rated Slip Resistance

Our installed surfaces meet ANSI A137.1 wet DCOF minimums for pool deck and commercial wet-service applications. We measure and document the rating, we don’t guess at it.

Durability

Sealed Aggregate, Not Surface Aggregate

The difference between anti-slip that lasts and anti-slip that wears off in a season is whether the aggregate is sealed into the topcoat or sitting on top of it. Every install seals the aggregate in.

Coastal Spec

UV and Salt-Air Rated

Every product we use on Marco Island exterior surfaces is rated for the UV index and salt-air exposure that is normal for a Gulf-front island. We’ve been applying coatings in this environment since 2012.

Questions

What Marco Island clients ask us.

The questions we hear most on Marco Island quotes. Ask us anything else.

Can you add anti-slip coating to an existing pool deck without full resurfacing?
Yes. If the existing surface is structurally sound and well-adhered, we can mechanically abrade it and apply an anti-slip broadcast topcoat over the existing surface. This is a shorter, less expensive project than full resurfacing. We evaluate adhesion during the site visit to confirm suitability.
How do you prevent the anti-slip aggregate from wearing off?
The critical factor is sealing the aggregate into the topcoat rather than broadcasting it on top and leaving it. We use a polyaspartic sealer coat over the aggregate broadcast, which locks the particles into the matrix. This is what produces a rating that holds over time instead of wearing off.
Are anti-slip coatings required on commercial pool decks in Florida?
The Florida Building Code requires that pool decks accessible to the public meet minimum slip-resistance standards. ANSI A137.1 wet DCOF of 0.42 or higher is the referenced standard for pool deck applications. We install to this specification and provide documentation for commercial compliance files.
What is the difference between aluminum oxide and no-slip aggregate?
Aluminum oxide is a harder, more abrasion-resistant mineral aggregate that produces a consistent, fine-grained texture and is appropriate for most pool deck, dock, and commercial applications. Coarser aggregate options are used for boat ramps and industrial dock approaches where maximum grip under heavy load is the priority. We recommend the right aggregate for the specific use.
How long do anti-slip coatings last on Marco Island exterior surfaces?
A properly installed anti-slip system with UV-stable polyaspartic topcoat and sealed aggregate will typically last 10 to 15 years on Marco Island exterior surfaces under normal residential or commercial foot traffic. UV stability of the topcoat is the primary determinant of coating life on south-facing Gulf Coast surfaces.
Will an anti-slip surface be hard to walk on barefoot around a pool?
No, and this is the balance we dial in on every pool deck. Marco Island is a barefoot island, so we don’t broadcast the coarse industrial aggregate you’d put on a boat ramp onto a residential pool surround. We use a fine aluminum oxide grade that gives you the wet DCOF rating you need without feeling like sandpaper under bare feet or towels. During the site visit we bring sample panels at different aggregate grades so you can feel the texture yourself and pick the one that matches how the deck actually gets used, whether that’s a family pool or a rental property.
Does salt water and daily rinse-down affect the slip rating over time?
Not when the aggregate is sealed in correctly. On a Marco Island canal-front property the deck and dock get rinsed with the hose after every fishing trip and hit with salt spray on windy days, so the surface is constantly wet and constantly drying. What kills a slip rating in that cycle is loose aggregate washing off. Because we lock the particles into the polyaspartic matrix instead of dusting them on top, there is nothing to wash away. The texture that measures 0.42 DCOF on install day measures the same years later, which is exactly why we test and document it rather than take it on faith.
